Ganutell Ġojjell – A Twist to Tradition
From the very beginning, my vision has been to take ganutell beyond its traditional parameters.
In 2021, I launched my jewellery line using the ganutell technique, driven by the belief that jewellery is a form of wearable art—an essential means through which women express their identity, confidence, and individuality. Through this line, I aim to revive and celebrate this dying craft by giving it a contemporary voice.
Inspired by contemporary fashion trends, I design and create pieces that reflect current styles while remaining deeply rooted in tradition. My work preserves the authenticity of ganutell by strictly following its traditional techniques. What I have transformed is the way these techniques are presented.
By combining ganutell with modern jewellery components, I reinterpret classic forms into floral and abstract designs that resonate with today’s woman. Instead of assembling shapes into traditional bouquets, I shape them into delicate flowers, leaves, and expressive forms that become elegant accessories.
Each piece is thoughtfully designed to offer a wide spectrum of choice, from bold statement jewellery for special occasions to refined, minimalist pieces for everyday wear. My collections are named using Maltese names, honouring my cultural heritage and reinforcing the deep connection between tradition and innovation.
The line, Ganutell Ġojjell, takes its name from my first entry at Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti 2021. In 2024, I was honoured to receive First Prize in the Textiles Category at the Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti 2023 edition for my entry “Ganutell Ġojjell – A Twist to Tradition.”
Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti is an annual awards ceremony organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation, recognising excellence in Maltese craftsmanship and artistic innovation.
Through my work, I strive to ensure that ganutell continues to evolve, inspire, and shine—bridging the past with the present and creating jewellery that tells a story of heritage, creativity, and modern elegance.
